BIT Teatergarasjen is seeking a new artistic director
We are looking for a unifying and confident artistic director who will continue to strengthen BIT Teatergarasjen's artistic ambitions.
Our new artistic director will possess a clear artistic vision rooted in solid competency within performing arts. As an applicant, you have extensive experience in artistic and curatorial work, capable of elevating the latest in contemporary fields within theater, dance, and performance. Together with highly competent and motivated colleagues, you will showcase to our audience innovative, challenging, and socially engaging Norwegian and international performing arts at BIT Teatergarasjen.
We are looking for someone with a large network and strong relationships within the national and international performing arts community, demonstrating artistic and cultural-political engagement beyond the theater.
The artistic director will play a key role in further developing BIT Teatergarasjen as an organization, preparing and executing the move to new premises at Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus in 2026. You will be actively present in the work environment and collaborate with your colleagues to foster a culture of trust, inspiration, and community within the theater. You must be motivated by speaking on behalf of BIT Teatergarasjen with the media, business sector, politicians, public authorities, and various partners in collaboration with the administrative leader.
The position is based in Bergen but will require frequent travel both in Norway and abroad. The working languages are Norwegian and English. The artistic director is the creative head and reports to the board. The position as artistic director is a fixed-term appointment of 5 years.

About BIT
BIT Teatergarasjen places particular emphasis on projects that stimulate international collaboration and cross-disciplinary artistic endeavors. Additionally, BIT Teatergarasjen annually organizes two alternating performing arts festivals, Meteor and Oktoberdans. In 2026, the theater will relocate to Sentralbadet Scenekunsthus, sharing the space with the national contemporary dance company, Carte Blanche. Currently, BIT Teatergarasjen has a team of 14 full-time employees.
